Personal Info-Dex v1.5
*SHAREWARE*
By Charlie Kozlowski
Copyright (c) 1991,92
Personal Info-Dex will store the Names, addresses, zipcodes, phone
numbers and 3 lines of notes for 2000 people You will be able to
search, add, edit, and delete the data you enter.
*********************
*Using This program:*
*********************
Infodex will use the current directory for it's data files by default,
however............
The program may run from ANY DIRECTORY on your hard drive: if it is in your
PATH and ONLY if you perform this simple operation- Add this line of text to
your AUTOEXEC.BAT or type it in at the command line: SET INFODEX=C:\INFODAT
Where INFODAT is the name of the directory where the data file is. if this is
not done, INFO-DEX simply will use the current directory.
Registered users can place their "key" file here so the program will
be able to find it when run from a PATHed directory; if not, the
program will look in the current directory.
Hercules Monochrome users:
Type INFODEX /H to use monochrome mode
I can't find anyone who has a Mono Monitor- so........
If the display isn't perfect, drop me a line and let me know!
Anyway- press C and set the colors the way you like, then save the
colors so you won't have to start the program with the /H anymore!

The commands will provide you with prompts to follow, just read the screens,
it couldn't be easier!
A note on the Find feature:
The find feature looks for a text string in a card- ANY text on the card at
all; numbers, names, notes- and will bring that card up on the screen- the
function remembers the last "Find text" for repeated finds; FOR THIS REASON-
the program searches from the current card displayed to the end of the list.
NOT from the first card! (unless the first card is being shown) That is why
I've added the HOME key feature.
You will notice that the "E" in edit and the "D" in delete are not
highlighted when there are 1 or less cards in the database.
As soon as you have 2 cards in the database, the highlights will
appear and Edit and Delete will begin to function!
F1 key
This will toggle "Sort only on exit" so, when adding to a database
which is large, you won't be troubled by the program sorting after
each card is entered- the entire database will be sorted when the
program exits to DOS.
X Key
will create a new file from your data file in standard comma
delimited database format for importation into other programs (like
label printers) Along with the WDB file, now creates INFODEX.TXT
which is a ASCII text file of the entire database suitable for
printing or editing with a word processor. A bar graph will show
percent complete; this is helpful if you have a slow machine and a
large database.
C Key
User configuration of colors- a small menu will pop up, displaying
numbers 0-9 with a colored block to the right of the numbers.
Pressing these numbers will change a colored area on the screen, you
can watch the colors change; when the colors you like are displayed-
press 9 this will save INFODEX.CFG in the default directory OR in
the directory specified by SET INFODEX= statement mentioned above.
Pressing 0 will exit the color configuration and leave the colors as
you have set them; the defaults have not changed, and the program
will run with the default colors the next time you run the program.
If you wish to restore the default colors without entering the
program, simply delete INFODEX.CFG.
COMMAND line searches
Version 1.5 supports a command line search for ultra-fast searches of your
database right from DOS. That's right, no more waiting for the program to start
then press 'F' to find a card!
Example: you have a friend named John Doe.......
You need his phone number FAST
from the DOS command line, type: INFODEX DOE
The program will start and immediately go to 'F'ind "DOE" in it's
database. Unregistered users will still have to type in the number
to get past the shareware screen.... (sorry guys, but it pays to
register.....)
CONVROL.EXE
The program that was distributed with V1.0 is no longer needed- the command is
now built into the program Please delete this file from your disk- it will
produce a garbled database with the new v1.2 format.
1TO15.EXE
Use this program ONLY if you already are using Infodex V1.0 and have a
database already entered with Infodex 1.0. This program will update your
existing data to the new database format Use it on your database ONCE- then
delete it. If you are using a database from any version GREATER than 1.0 (like
1.1 or 1.2) then do NOTHING- the databases are compatable. ERASE 1TO15.EXE!
IF YOU REGISTER:
IF you decide to register, you will receive the latest version
of Personal Info-Dex, and a KEY file that REMOVES the entry and exit
screens and places YOUR name in the title screen (as the registered user).
Now brace yourself for THIS- when the next version of Info-Dex hits
the BBSes, you WON'T get a "discount" on the registration of the
next version................ you won't need it, because.....
** YOUR KEY FILE WILL UNLOCK IT TOO!!! Yes, it's true! ***
ONE measly $20 registration and you get ALL future versions registered too!
Who says 20 bucks don't buy much these days?
